SR3 Engines: 1300, 1340 and 1500

The SR3 family includes several engines derived from the Suzuki Hayabusa. The 1300 of the first cars shares its base with the road bike, but an engine installed in Radical can have adaptations of lubrication, power and management. A used motorcycle block around $2,000 is a benchmark to be validated according to its condition and the market, not the cost of a complete replacement.

The 1300 cc of the SR3 Gen 1: an interesting option

The 1300 derived from the road-going Suzuki Hayabusa makes the SR3 Gen 1 interesting to control its budget: a healthy used motorcycle engine can be around $2,000, depending on the market and its condition. This mark is for the donor motor only; inspection, adaptations for the Radical, lubrication, installation and parts are added. Check compatibility and history before purchase.

In lapping, about 100 hours can serve as an exploratory benchmark for a 1300, without warranty or confirmed manufacturer interval. Condition, readiness and speed of use count; follow the engine and confirm the program with its preparer.

Maintenance and reconstruction

Historically, an SR3 manual indicates in normal racing conditions a motor/gearbox reconstruction at 40 h for the 1340 and at 30 h for the 1500. These figures are not universal: Radical indicates that it has tested its XXR engine for up to 50 hours without abnormal wear. The usage, generation, history and applicable manual determine the follow-up.

An RPE Gen 5 rebuild may reach approximately $14,064 plus tax (indicative November 2, 2026 conversion based on the Bank of Canada rate), according to the manufacturer’s rebuild form. This authorization ceiling is not a guaranteed price and is not directly comparable to a used motorcycle engine. Obtain a detailed quote including inspection, parts, transport and installation.

Track-day hours are guidelines, not guarantees or universal intervals. Racing hours and warranty terms may be more restrictive; check the current manual and the engine builder’s recommendations for the engine and its use.

Indicative conversion: the values at the wheels are divided by 0.85 (assumed loss of 15%). Actual loss varies by transmission and bench; these are not engine measurements.
